December 8, 2009
The New King of JEE – Cold Fusion – Who Knew?

This month's meeting will feature a presentation by Bill Brutzman on Cold Fusion. A few facts...
  1. Most of using a Java application server is about talking to databases.
  2. Getting up to speed with JEE and Hibernate is... burdensome.
Cold Fusion does the heavy lifting...
  1. CF jabs with its PHP-like web server.
  2. CF's knockout punch is its robust visual database middleware ORM tools.
  3. CF is built on the J-Run JEE Server... written in Java.
  4. CF has tons of functionaly for messaging, pdfs, e-Commerce, etc.
  5. CF has Hibernate built-in... and leverages Hibernate.
  6. CF development is easy... leading to rapid application development.
In this hands-on talk, Bill will demo how to...
  1. Connect the new Adobe CF.9 server to a back-end PostGreSQL database.
  2. Introspect the database from Flash Builder (Flex) via Eclipse.
  3. Enhance the wizard-generated CRUD code to create a rich GUI database application.

Over the last two decades, Bill Brutzman has worked as an ERP (U2-MultiValue) database application developer at prominent manufacturing companies in New Jersey. Before that, Bill worked at Sperry/Unisys on Trident submarine navigation systems... GPS and Gyro. Bill was educated at Rensellaer, NJIT, and Georgia Tech.

Meetings are held every second Tuesday of the month at the Scotch Plains Rescue Squad second floor meeting hall starting promptly at 7:30pm. Meetings are open to the public, and visitors are encouraged to join ACGNJ.
